ORBIT: The Quiet Reach – factions, story and missions

The game is coming together nicely on the ZX Spectrum Next. The main campaign of 36 missions is now sketched out, across six acts. It’s set in a galaxy split between three rival factions: AEGIS, HELIX and VESPER. Your choices count all the way through. Who you help, what evidence you share and who you side with all shape how the factions grow and the state of the galaxy.

The galaxy keeps changing in the background too. Factions claim systems, take them in wars and lose outposts that run out of supply, while borders shift, wars start and truces are signed. You can follow it all on the galaxy chart, which now has views for contested systems, wars and fronts, faction operations and the campaign. The journal, war status and ownership pages on the mission board show the rest.

Underneath it is a full economy driven by what each faction needs. Every contract shows what it will probably do before you take it: reputation, supplies and whether it helps someone’s war effort. We also have mining, recovery and even rescue missions all coming together.

Every update is being fully tested on both emulators and real hardware and it plays really nicely.
